Inspiration by the talents of Brian Buirge and Jason Bacher, co-founders of Good Fucking Design Advice, grace the walls of 818’s Headquarters. When the guys announced on Twitter they were starting off their nation wide tour (#GFDAUSA) and would be driving through Des Moines, the next logical step was to tweet back, rendezvous at a local watering hole and catch up with the design wizards.
Brian, Jason and their camera woman, Danielle, cruised into town and spent some quality time with 818 shooting the breeze. We started the evening off right by introducing them to one of Des Moines’ best – El Bait Shop. We couldn’t let them leave town without trying Zombie Burger and of course had to revel in the glory that is our own golden capital building.
Meeting GFDA reminded us why it is important to do what you’re passionate about and take risks. There are some similarities between how GFDA and 818 started as companies, but most importantly it’s about how this thing we call design isn’t a day job, it’s a lifestyle. We live, eat and breathe design because we believe it has the power to change lives.
Although GFDA is now wrapping up their national tour, they will be coming back to Des Moines as guest speakers at the culmination event for AIGA’s Design Month on Tuesday, October 29th at the Meredith Corporation in Des Moines. We can’t wait to hear them speak and meet up with them for more high fives. Hopefully, we’ll see many of Des Moines’ designers there!
